Letter to Grand Lodges to Establish General Grand Lodge of US pamphlet, 1822 April
Scope and Contents
Circular from appointed committee of eleven members submitted to several Grand Lodges and distributed among Masons concerning the establishment of a General Grand Lodge of the United States. It contains a report of a meeting held on March 9, 1822 among "members of Congress who belong to the Masonic Fraternity" as well as "visitors to the city who are or have been members of any state grand lodge... held in the Senate Chamber" to discuss the establishment of a national Grand Lodge.
The circular includes a list of Committee members on the last page: Henry Clay, William H. Winder, William S. Cardell, Joel Abbot, John Holmes, Henry Baldwin, John H. Eaton, William W. Seaton, Christopher Rankin, Thomas R. Ross, and H. G. Burton. The first page includes a handwritten note"[indecipherable] The Dublin Society's Report by a majority of the Trustees--see D.[indecipherable]'s letter of explanation--April 1822".
