Scope and Contents Circular from appointed committee of eleven members submitted to several Grand Lodges and distributed among Masons concerning the establishment of a General Grand Lodge of the United States. It contains a report of a meeting held on March 9, 1822 among "members of Congress who belong to the Masonic Fraternity" as well as "visitors to the city who are or have been members of any state grand lodge... held in the Senate Chamber" to discuss the establishment of a national Grand Lodge....

Outside of letter used as envelope, reads "To the Worshipful Master and Brethren of the Lodge held at Wilmington". Accompanied by typed transcription of letter. Subject concerns request for subscription list with names and sums.

Includes an engraving of a knight on horseback with raised sword, symbol of cross on chest. The ceremony took place at City Hall, Newburyport, Massachusetts, October 12, 1916.
