FR 005. Fraternal postcards

Scope and Contents The bulk of the collection contains postcards from the Elks Lodge and the Knights of Pythias. A few other organizations include the Loyal Orange Association, the Improved Order of Red Men (IORM), and the Daughters of the American Revolution. The majority of the collection is American, but there are some foreign postcards as well. Collection includes real photo postcards that document a parade held in Wappingers Falls, New York, on August 22, 1914, with several different fraternal organizations participating.

Postcards of the Vasa Order of America's Archives building in Bishop Hill, Illinois. One shows the building exterior during the day, and the second shows the building exterior under snowfall and with lit candles in the windows for Christmas.

Photolithograph of an Elk sculpted out of sand with its four sculptors behind it. The passage next to the elk reads "The faults of our brothers we write on the sand their virtues upon the tablet of love and memory." The postcard requests that the 1911 Elks Grand Lodge Reunion be held in Atlantic City, declaring the city "The sunshine town where everybody laughs."
