Letter from Antoine Louis Moret to Gourgas 1822/12/18

Paris December 18, 1822

[To]: Mr. JJJ Gourgas New York

I had the pleasure Very Dear and Very Illustrious Brother to write you at my arrival in Liverpool and in that city (sic), I without a doubt believe that the sickness that prevailed in N. York had you leave the city and because of that your correspondence must have been intercepted (sic). I am now assuming that it should not be too long before I get news from you and fortunately hear that none of the people who interest us have been victims of this deadly sickness. Here, I have not done anything regarding our Masonic Societies and will not do anything until I receive news from you because I prefer to stay without doing anything than to embark in doing a bad job. I will always be willing to do what I can for the good cause but as I mentioned to you, I do not feel I should step up to not be useful at any thing and look ridiculous. I am sure that you must agree with the relevance of my logic.

Happiness, Prosperity, Health, Salvation, Fraternity & Union. Deus meum que jus

A. L. Moret
