Letter from C. L. Mitchell to Leon Abbott, 1924
Scope and Contents
Letter from C. L. Mitchell, Sovereign Grand Commander, United Supreme Council to Leon Abbott, Sovereign Grand Commander, Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. Mitchell voices concern over the misrepresentations by N. N. Boozier, a Black Mason who claimed his Supreme Council had been recognized by the white United Supreme Council of Scottish Rite Masons. Mitchell denies this recognition and cites Boozier's jail terms and expulsion from the United Supreme Council of the South and Western Jurisdiction of the U.S.A. He encloses a news clipping published in Houston Informer, dated Nov. 8, 1924, crediting Boozier with proving the legality of his United Supreme Council. He also encloses related minutes and a copy of a court decree (see A1996/015/001-002 for description).
