Master Mason certificate issued by Essex Lodge (Salem, Massachusetts) to Samuel Derby and dated 1796. The Dutch inscription on the back of certificate is notation/affidavit of Samuel Derby’s visit to the La Vertueuse lodge in Batavia, Dutch East Indies or nowadays Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 15, 1801. The imprint on bottom of certificate reads "J. Hiller jun'r, del. S. Hill sc."

Content Description

A Master Mason certificate issued by Lodge No. 535 of Ancient Masons "held in the Prince of Wales American Regiment and on the Register of Ireland" to Seth Fairchild and dated August 29, 1783. The Prince of Wales American Volunteers were a Loyalist regiment who fought during the Revolutionary War. These volunteers left New York in September of 1783 and set out for Nova Scotia (modern-day New Brunswick).

A Master Mason certificate issued by Rural Amity Lodge, No. 7 (Athens, Pa.) to Sidney Hayden. Dated January 15, 1832. The artwork includes depictions of the Eye of Providence, two aproned Masons (one standing on a winged hourglass while the other stands on an ark), the symbol of Charity (a female), and scales (the symbol of justice). The certificate design was created by Charles Cushing Wright in Homer, New York, circa 1816.

Master Mason certificate issued to Thomas Fisher from Mount Moriah Lodge, No.132 of New York, New York. It is signed and dated April 22, 1820 with text in both French and English. The image in the engraving include an angel at the top, maidens on top of Corinthian columns, a Mason with apron on surrounded by a man with a lion's skin (Hercules), woman in armour (Minerva) and mother with children (Charity). This neoclassical design was popular for more than a century.
