The certificate awards Joseph Smith II Master Mason degree from Union Lodge Chapter No. 31, Royal Arch Mason degree from Union Lodge, Chapter No. 7, and Membership to Palestine Commandry No.6. Bottom writing reads, "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1884 by S.B. Attwood in the office of the Library of Congress at Washington. Dist of Columbia."
