Membership certificate issued by the New York Mason Society to Ezekiel Thorp. Dated June 3, 1805. Signed by the Society’s President, Michael Norris, and Secretary, Samuel Ludlum. Incorporated in 1807, the New York Masons’ Society was formed as an association and benevolent society for New York City’s stonemasons, bricklayers or plaisterers. Its mission was to provide relief for distressed members, widows, and orphans and to provide for the education of the children of deceased and indigent members. Imprint at the bottom of certificate reads, “Archd. Robertson Delin.t W. Rollinson Sct.”
