Herbert H. Stafford documents collection, 1818-1959
Scope and Contents
Includes 3 original manuscript documents from 1818, with the majority negative copies from microfilm of manuscript letters written around the same date. Also includes typescript translations of the documents, referred to as numbered "Stafford documents," with undated translation credit given to Stafford at times, as well as Dr. Cummings. There is also correspondence dating to 1959 between a researcher and the Supreme Council regarding the requested Stafford microfilms and any translation attempts. The Stafford microfilms appear to have been made from a collection of documents held at the National Library of France. See the Proceedings of the Supreme Council, 33°, Northern Masonic Jurisdiciton, 1955, p. 108 for references to Herbert H. Stafford, his translations, and the microfilm copies of Masonic documents from the National Library of France as part of the History Committee's work.
