Scope and Contents

Includes 8 x 10 black and white photographs of George A. Newbury's visit to Harrisburg, PA on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Harrisburg Consistory, SPRS 32° [1865-1965]. The photographs were originally housed in an album. The collection includes a cover letter from Martin D. Rife, 33°, Commander-in-Chief, Harrisburg Consistory, to Newbury, and an index to orignal photo album. The photographs show Rife, Newbury, the 100th anniversary banquet and head tables, and some of the 8,000 attendees.

Biographical / Historical

George A. Newbury assumed the office of Sovereign Grand Commander upon the death of Judge George Bushnell, September 29, 1965 and continued in this role until 1975. His major accomplishments include the establishment and building of the Scottish Rite Museum and Library in Lexington, MA, dedicated April 20, 1975.
