Scope and Contents

Collection of 274 World War II documentary photographs each with complete description on back. Images of American, British and Italians fighting the Germans and destruction throughout towns in Italy (Castelvetrano, Naples, Mount Roccamonfina, Rome, Vanafro, Raviscanina, Peidmonte, Sanagro River, St. Angelo, Tragone, Foccia, Benevento, Alife, Olevano, Literne, Avellino, Pompeii, Mount Camino, Piombino area, Rionero, Caiazzo, Aversa, Allerona, Sparanise, Acerno, Castellamare, Volturno River area, Portoferraio, Cassino and more), and some of French towns (Cherbourg, island of Corsica, Varenne-le-Grand, Normandy). There are also images of Charles De Gaulle inspecting troops in Rabat, Morocco, images of Canadian soldiers with civilians at a marketplace in Avigliano, Italy and helping an Italian girl with her chores at Potenza, Italy. There are images of Women Army Corps in the South Pacific, surrendering Germans, Italians burying their dead, Italians buying bread, scouting for fresh water, doing their laundry in the streets, American airplanes, tanks, jeeps, and artillery. There are aerial views of bombing, images of land mines and Americans searching for land mines. There are also images of Italians rebuilding their towns after bombings, displaced children and Italian families after bombings, sunken German ships in harbor of Castellammare, Italy, and images of dead Italian and German soldiers.
