Scope and Contents

Manuscript letter to A. P. Dufour of Vevay, Indiana concerning lodge business of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Includes a story about a man who was robbed and embarked on a ferry to reach home. The captain saw the the distress signal (a fraternal sign) made by the man, and as he was also an Odd Fellow, allowed the man to complete his ferry ride. The moral of the story helping a brother in distress is brought up to date in a discussion of fraternal assistance at the turn of the 20th century. The letter is signed J. E. Delano, of I.O.O. F. Browinski Lodge, No. 64.
