Scope and Contents

A Master Mason carpet and traveling diploma issued by Union Lodge, No. 71, to William F. Wylie. Includes images from "Master's Carpet" above text of certificate, includes Masonic symbols such as 3 pillars, Charity, Hope, winding stairs, working tools, broken column with Time (mourning), sword piercing a heart, beehive, Solomon's temple, and many more. The certificate was published in pocket map form by John Sherer (about 1803-1876) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and is written in English, German, and French. Sherer was a well-known Freemason, lithographer, and publisher of maps.
