Independent Boston Fusiliers collection, 1810-1890
Scope and Contents
Documents in this collection include evidence of the Boston Fusiliers' involvement in the Civil War and also their activities in participating in distant militia events, travelling to locations such as Montreal and Washington, and in the early years, marching to these destinations. This collection includes a variety of material documenting the organization and activity of this early militia such as membership cards, company orders, meeting summons, menus, broadsides, programs, loose scrapbook pages, thank you notice, newspaper clippings, invitations, and correspondence. The collection shows evidence of the activities, both military and social, of an early Massachusetts militia.

Biographical / Historical
The Boston Fusiliers, organized in 1787, was the oldest military company in the Boston Regiment and was the first company to rally around the government after the Revolution. Active in the War of 1812, the Fusiliers volunteered to man the forts in Boston Harbor.
