An excellent New Free Mason Song; composed and set to Music by a Brother, to be sung at the Celebration of the Feast of St. John the Baptist, broadside, 1795
Scope and Contents
This broaside features a newly composed song: "Begin, Brother Masons, a Free Mason strain," and is illustrated with a cut of a man in profile in Federal garb. The song is constructed of seven sections with six lines each, paying tribute to historical influences and present glory of being "a Mason and Free". At the end of the Masonic song is a two inch decorative border demarcating the start of a second song, a May Day air that could be called "With Jockey". There is a cut of a coach with horses and driver below the border that starts the song. At the end is "Sold near Liberty-Pole. 1795."
