Master Mason Certificate, 1820
Issued to Thomas Fisher, Mount Moriah Lodge, No. 132, New York, New York
Engraved by William Rollinson (1762-1842), New York, New York
Collection of the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library
The Grand Lodge of New York first ordered a certificate of this design in 1784. About ten years later, the plate had worn out and Grand Lodge officials commissioned engraver William Rollinson to make a new one. Two decades after Rollinson produced the replacement, the Grand Lodge had a French version of the text added to the certificate for the convenience of New York City’s growing population of French-speaking lodges.
