Biographical / Historical
Barry R. Stocker (1935-2022) was born in Phillipsburg on May 23, 1935. He was a son of the late Melvin Stocker and Lydia (Hawk) Stocker. Barry grew up along the Delaware River in the Roxburg section of Harmony Township. He worked on several farms in Harmony as a youth and was a four-year starter for the Belvidere High football team. After graduating from Belvidere High School in 1953 Barry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force rising to Staff Sargent before his Honorable Discharge on August 19,1958. He married E. Jane Fowler on May 7, 1955. Barry was a professional driver with Greyhound Lines from 1960-1990 working out of Manhattan. After retirement from Greyhound, he was employed by the State of N.J. Department of Corrections in Annandale NJ. In retirement, Barry loved tending to his vegetable garden, volunteering with numerous civic organizations, traveling to Tall Cedars events, cruising the seas with his wife and best friends and touring Alaska, hand delivering a large check to the Jerry Lewis Telethon from the Tall Cedars of Lebanon in Beverly Hills. Barry was a member of the generation that came of age during and after WWII and the Korean War. He believed in serving his country, his community and his fraternal organizations. His memberships include the Masonic Lodge, Warren Lodge #13 Raised December, 1977; Grand Tall Cedar, 1991; Supreme Grand Tall Cedar, 2000. He was the past President of the Pohatcong Playground Association (1970-74); a founder of the Pohatcong Wrestling (1970) and Pohatcong Football programs (1971). Barry was also a member of St James Lutheran Church, Bernadine May American Legion Post #457; Brown and Lynch American Legion; Huntington Volunteer Fire Co.; Safety First Volunteer Fire Co; West Easton AA; BPO Elks in Bangor PA; and many other Masonic Affiliations. He died in Palmer Township on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
