Biographical / Historical

This collection tells the story of Dorothy Cleveland Brown as she rose through the ranks of the Order of Amaranth. Brown was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and an active member of Order of Amaranth in Olean, New York. She served as Grand Royal Matron of New York State from 1958-1959 and was Supreme Royal Matron of Order of Amaranth from 1971-1972. She traveled as a part of her roles in these organizations.

Dorothy (Dolly) Cleveland Brown (1907-2002) was the daughter of Ira and Minnie Mayers and was born in North Bend, Pennsylvania. She attended Westbrook Academy and worked for Niagara Mohawk. Dorothy was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She also enjoyed baking and bird watching. She lived in Olean, New York with her first husband Theron C. Cleveland (d. 1967). In 1970, she married Roy Brown (d. 1989).
