Note: Vallendar may be the true spelling of the lithographer's name. Founded in Utica, New York, in 1851, the Independent Order of Good Templars is still in existence and has changed its name to the International Order of Good Templars.

At the time of this certificate's issuance, Kendall had just finished his term as the Noble Grand, or presiding officer, of Howard Lodge, and before his name, someone has inserted the initials "P.G." or Past Grand in recognition of his achievement.
