Corporal Lovejoy served in the 3rd Regiment, Illinois Cavalry, and died on August 9, 1862, onboard the riverboat White Cloud, somewhere near Memphis, Tennessee. A Master Mason certificate issued by Lodge No. 535 of Ancient Masons "held in the Prince of Wales American Regiment and on the Register of Ireland" to Seth Fairchild and dated August 29, 1783. The Prince of Wales American Volunteers were a Loyalist regiment who fought during the Revolutionary War. These volunteers left New York in September of 1783 and set out for Nova Scotia (modern-day New Brunswick).
