Identifier: A2018-029-041

Scope and Contents

This satirical invitation to a fictitious political gathering invites Peace Democrats or “Copperheads” to a retreat on a salt marsh, a wordplay on the political slogan “salt river,” a metaphor for a losing political campaign. Speakers include General George B. McClellan, who would run as the Democratic Party candidate for President against Lincoln in 1864. Imprint on the reverse reads, “Edwards’, [Phot]ograph [Printing] Establishment, [No. 1338 C]hestnut Street.”
