Scope and Contents

Broadside made in reverse (must be held to a mirror to read). Text reads, in part: "On the XVII, day of June, MDCCCXXV : at the request of the Bunker Hill Monument Association, the Most Worshipful John Abbot, Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts, did, in the presence of General Lafayette, lay this corner stone of a monument, to testify the gratitude of the present generation to their fathers, who, on the XVII day of June MDCCLXXV here fought in the cause of their country, and of free institutions, the memorable Battle of Bunker Hill ... : officers of the Bunker Hill Monument Association, president, Daniel Webster ... Standing Committee for Collecting Subscriptions, Henry A.S. Dearborn ... Committee on the Form of the Monument, Danl. Webster ... : President of the United States, John Quincy Adams, Gov. of Massachusetts, Levi Lincoln, New Hampshire, David L. Morrill, Vermont, C.P. Van Ness ... Maine, Albion K. Parris. Alexander Parris architect." Broadside thought to have been printed directly from the silver plate of the cornerstone. John Abbot, Grand Master Grand Lodge of Massachusetts and General Lafayette laid the cornerstone. 10/28/2025
