Scope and Contents

Masonic summons to Brother Oxnard for a meeting of First Lodge, Boston. At bottom center are six steps leading up to an archway. There are three columns on each side of the steps. Faith, Hope, and Charity are on top of the columns on one side. Wisdom, Beauty, and Strength are on top of the columns of the other side. The arch has printed text reading, "Incoctum Generoso Pectus Honesto." Hanging from the arch are three symbols, crossed keys, a square and crossed quills. Above the arch are three male busts: two wear crowns and one wears a leafy wreath. All three have Masonic jewels around their necks. Inside the archway is printed text with blanks filled in with brown ink, "Boston July 5764 / Brother Oxnard / Wednesday Evening ye 11th / Instant being First Lodge / Night, 1st in the Quarter, / the Right Worshipful Brother / Abraham Savage Master, / you are desired to give your / Attendance at Bro. Ingersols / where said Lodge is held at / 7 o'clock. / Your Affectionate Brother / & Humble Servant, / Joseph Callender Sec'y." A plumb and level lean against the columns at the bottom of the printed text. At bottom center is a seal with a shield in the center showing three castles and a square and compasses (on top of each other). There is a bird at top center and two scaly animals at the sides. At the bottom is a banner reading, "Follow Reason." Printed at lower left is "Brother N. Hurd Boston fecit." The summons is mounted in cream mat board.
