Scope and Contents
Correspondence from Claude Gounard, Lt. Gr. Cdr., Supreme Council of France to Supreme Council of Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, U.S., dated August 16, 1895. Original in French, accompanied by typed translation. Addressed to Clinton Paige, advising that after the decree of Nov. 7, 1894 which created a confederation of blue lodges under the title of Grand Lodge of France, a group of Masons took charge of executive powers of the Grand Lodge, creating a Federal Council and elected officers against the advice of the Supreme Council. This resulted in 2 Councils located in the same community. Letter informs Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, of address, names and positions of officers of Supreme Council of France and shares concern that correspondence may be delivered to wrong organization.
