Scope and Contents
This postcard includes an illustration of the trowel used by George Washington at the laying of the corner stone of the United States Capitol Building in 1793. This trowel was used a second time at the laying of the cornerstone of The Smithsonian Institution in 1846, and shortly after for the laying of the cornerstone of the Washington Monument in 1848.
