Gift of Diana Korzenik and Andrew S. Dibner, A99/81/04
As the possibility of war in Europe grew in the mid-1910s, some Americans felt that the United States was, from a military perspective, unprepared. The Military Training Camps Association, a group formed to address this lack of preparedness by helping train civilians to become officers, published this poster, and another displayed nearby, with the goal of attracting participants to their summer camps. At these camps, including one in Plattsburg, New York, college students and businessman undertook weeks-long courses getting fit and learning about the military.
