As soldiers prepared to climb out of the trenches and into battle, comrades wished them well with the phrase: "over the top and the best of luck." One enlisted man wrote home to his wife, "We are going over the top this afternoon and only God knows who will come out alive." The charging soldier featured on this poster demanded that viewers support the work and sacrifice of U.S. soldiers by purchasing bonds.
