Advertising that sought to garner support for the war often played to people's worst fears. This poster portrays a helmeted German soldier menacing a mother and child. The term "Huni" linked Germans to the barbarians who invaded Rome in ancient times. This poster suggested that by purchasing Liberty Loans, patriotic Americans would help rescue women and children from a ruthless enemy.
