Scope and Contents
Folder 4: Correspondence [53 letters] from various Cerneau bodies to Wheeler Cable, Sovereign Grand Commander of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Masons as organized by Joseph Cerneau. The folder includes reports from Consistories, announcements of special meetings, the awarding of degrees, election of officers, obiturary [William M. Crosby] and general business correspondence from the Consistories to the Sovereign Grand Consistory. Some of the letters make reference to the attempt to resuscitate the consistory in Richmond and to the tensions between the Northern Jurisdiction of Scottish Rite Masonry, Albert Pike's work in the Southern Jurisdiction, and the consistories organized after Cerneau. An empty envelope listing the names of the correspondents is included with the correspondence.
