Scope and Contents

Griswold discusses articles in the Masonic Voice Review, Freemasonry in the 1700s, Henry Price, the Massachusetts Grand Lodge, the Lodge of St. Andrews and the Ohio Grand Lodge. Griswold refers Norton to Drummond and the Maine proceedings for certain questions. The letters also include discussion of African-Americans in Freemasonry.

Biographical / Historical

Born in 1832, Charles Griswold joined Freemasonry in 1855 in Illinois, continued his Masonic career when he relocated to Minnesota. He was the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Minnesota from 1873-1875. He was active in the Methodist church before graduating from medical school in 1880 and practiced medicine from that point on. He died in 1906.
