Scope and Contents

In the correspondence, Bromwell discusses Norton’s articles and articles written by others, theology, the writing of Bromwell’s book Restorations of Masonic Geometry and Symbolry (in the Library collection: 11.B868 1905, the written history of Masonry in the 1700s, and dislike of interpretations of Masonic history not written by Masons. He references Rob Morris and discusses books about the structure of early Masonry.

Biographical / Historical

Henry P. H. Bromwell became a Mason in 1854 in Illinois. Active in law and politics, Bromwell was an attorney, a Federal Judge for the State of Illinois, a Representative in the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress from 1865-1869, a member of the territorial legislature of Colorado, and the originator of the Free and Accepted Architects branch of Freemasonry. Henry P. H. Bromwell was born in 1823 and died in 1903.
