Members of the Order of the Amaranth must first be a member of the Order of the Eastern Star or a Master Mason to join. The Order of the Amaranth was a benevolent and social society, with rituals based on the lives of several characters in the New Testament. (Stevens, Cyclopedia of Fraternities, p. 97-98)
