Content Description

A sock social invitation from the Freemasons of Westbrook to Mrs. Benjamin F. Joy. Dated February 25, 1904. This sock social invitation invites Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Joy to the Masonic fair at Westbrook, Maine. The practice of sock socials required that each invitee fill their sock with money and bring this "invitation" to the social. The person had to have a money-filled sock to get into the social.

A meeting summons for Orange Lodge No. 14, dated May 25, 1791, and signed by the Lodge’s Secretary, Edward Christie. The summons is engraved with images of columns on either side and various tools of a mason including square, compass, globe, level and several female figures at top.
